At WTM London 2025, Khaled Zaki, who manages the Continental Plaza Beach Resort under IHG Hotels & Resorts, outlined his vision for the city’s tourism future. He highlighted Sharm El-Sheikh’s growing appeal as a year-round destination for beach lovers, adventurers, and eco-travelers.

Calling WTM “an incredible global platform,” Zaki emphasized how such events connect Egypt’s tourism industry with new international markets, boosting visibility and partnerships.

A Destination for Every Traveler

Sharm El-Sheikh’s Red Sea coast is famous for its coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and desert safaris. Zaki described the city as more than a leisure destination — it’s also a paradise for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Ras Muhammad National Park, a protected marine reserve, attracts thousands of migratory birds annually, enhancing its biodiversity appeal.

“From coral reefs to cultural landmarks, Sharm El-Sheikh offers variety unlike anywhere else,” Zaki said.

Hotel Expansion and IHG’s Commitment

Zaki revealed plans to launch two new resorts — a Crowne Plaza with 500 rooms and a Holiday Inn with 900 rooms — adding 1,400 keys to the region’s luxury inventory. These developments, part of IHG’s long-term strategy, aim to elevate guest experiences while promoting eco-friendly operations.

“Our goal is to blend comfort with sustainability,” he added. “We are creating spaces that reflect Egyptian hospitality and global standards.”

Sustainability and Responsible Tourism

Zaki emphasized IHG’s drive to achieve Green Key certification, a global benchmark for sustainable tourism. “We are reducing our carbon footprint, improving waste management, and conserving energy,” he said.

For him, preserving Sharm El-Sheikh’s natural beauty is a responsibility. “This region is blessed with nature and culture — it’s our duty to protect it for future generations.”

Partnerships Driving Growth

He credited strong government support for Egypt’s tourism success. High-profile events such as the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which hosted 22 world leaders, have reinforced the city’s global reputation as a “city of peace.”

Zaki expressed optimism about future collaborations with both public and private sectors to sustain the region’s growth momentum.

A Vision for the Future

As Sharm El-Sheikh continues to expand its tourism infrastructure, Zaki envisions a destination that merges modern hospitality with environmental care. His strategy blends innovation, sustainability, and cultural preservation — ensuring Sharm El-Sheikh remains a shining gem on Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
