Traffic Congestion and Frustration
Due to the heavy traffic, many pilgrims had to return without completing their darshan at Yamunotri Dham. This has been labelled a major administrative failure. The routine closure of temple doors after the evening aarti has also left thousands stranded, unable to complete their visits.
Road Construction Woes
Ongoing road construction is adding to the chaos, causing more delays and discomfort for both residents and travellers. Pilgrims have been stranded for hours without basic amenities, leading to more protests. Reports indicate that authorities have been largely absent, worsening the situation.

Badrinath Dham Controversy
In Badrinath Dham, ongoing construction has caused unrest. A VIP gate was erected, leading to protests from local traders and priests. The state government had banned VIP arrangements, and the gate was removed only after protests.
Kedarnath Dham Congestion
Since Kedarnath Dham reopened on May 10, over 1.8 lakh pilgrims have visited. The Kedarnath Yatra route, especially areas like Byunggad, Fata, and Jamu, has seen severe traffic congestion.

Other Popular Destinations in Uttarakhand
Other tourist spots in Uttarakhand, such as Nainital, Bhimtal, Mussoorie, and Dehradun, are also facing severe traffic jams. Tourists have experienced hours-long delays, particularly in Bhimtal, Ranibagh, Bhowali, and Kainchi Dham. The high number of tourists has led to cars being parked along the roadsides, causing minor congestion to escalate into full-blown traffic jams, resulting in many tourists missing their trains.
Consider Himachal Pradesh as an Alternative
If you're looking to escape the summer heat, consider visiting Himachal Pradesh instead of Uttarakhand. While places like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamsala can be crowded during peak season, offbeat locations such as Kalpa, Chitkul, Lahaul, Spiti, and even Ladakh offer great alternatives.
