Engaging Events and Learning Opportunities

Starting in early June at George Everest, Mussoorie, 'Nakshatra Sabha' will run until mid-2025. Events will take place across various locations in Uttarakhand, including Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Chamoli. These events are crafted to attract astronomy buffs and adventurers alike and will be complemented by seminars and webinars from experts in the field.

Skill Development and Economic Enhancement

The initiative also aims to train locals in astronomy and tourism, which will help boost the local economy. By developing skills related to astro-tourism, residents can better engage with visitors, enhance the tourist experience, and promote local businesses.

What It Means and Why It Matters

'Nakshatra Sabha' emphasizes the importance of preserving night skies. This means minimizing light pollution to keep the stars visible at night. Efforts include using energy-efficient lights, reducing unnecessary outdoor lighting, and educating the community and visitors about the benefits of a dark sky, such as supporting wildlife, conserving energy, and improving human well-being.

Sustainable Tourism and Community Involvement

Starscapes and local partners aim to establish a dark sky preservation policy across Uttarakhand. This policy will ensure the long-term sustainability of astro-tourism, benefiting both the environment and the community.
