India’s leading online travel company, MakeMyTrip, has taken another step forward in redefining digital travel planning. The company has introduced a new Semantic Search feature powered by artificial intelligence, designed to help users find their ideal stays by simply describing what they are looking for in natural language.
A Smarter Way To Find Your Perfect Stay
The new Semantic Search system eliminates the need for traditional filter-based searches. Instead of selecting multiple checkboxes or entering specific parameters, travellers can now type requests like “pet friendly hotels with swimming pools” or “heritage homestays near Jaipur forts with parking.” The AI understands intent, context, and tone, offering personalised and relevant options in seconds.
The feature is built on the same advanced framework as MakeMyTrip’s GenAI-powered assistant, Myra. It combines deep learning models and contextual understanding to make search results intuitive and human-like. The system interprets open-ended phrases, tailors rankings, and even highlights stay options with visual elements and user-generated content, making the booking experience seamless and inspiring.
Personalised Travel, One Search At A Time
Speaking about the innovation, Ankit Khanna, Chief of MakeMyTrip, said, “Our goal is to make travel planning as natural as conversation. With AI search integrated into the stay booking experience, we are simplifying one of the most important parts of the traveller journey — finding the right stay. Instead of forcing users to think like a system, we’ve built a system that understands how people naturally express themselves.”
The AI feature also includes smart suggestions that recommend categories like “beachfront resorts,” “mountain stays,” or “Ooty cottages with private pools.” These suggestions come with descriptive context tags such as “great for families” or “perfect for couples,” helping users make quick and confident choices.
Building The Future Of AI In Travel
The introduction of Semantic Search is part of MakeMyTrip’s larger AI innovation roadmap. Earlier this year, the company launched Myra — its GenAI-powered trip planning assistant — which helps users across every stage of travel, from discovery and booking to in-trip assistance and post-travel feedback. Currently available in English and Hindi, Myra allows users to interact through voice or text, with plans to expand into more Indian languages in the future.
By combining AI intelligence with human understanding, MakeMyTrip continues to bridge the gap between technology and traveller experience. The Semantic Search feature reflects the company’s vision to make trip planning feel conversational, efficient, and personal — turning the once tedious task of booking a stay into an effortless part of travel exploration.
