The Madras High Court has mandated the use of an e-pass system for visitors to Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu from May 7, 2024, to June 30, 2024. This decision aims to regulate tourism flow during the peak season and alleviate traffic congestion, particularly along the challenging ghat roads leading to these hill stations.
Introduced by a special division bench comprising Justices D Bharatha Chakravarthy and N Sathish Kumar, the e-pass requirement addresses the challenges posed by the influx of tourists while exempting residents from this regulation. There is no cap on the issuance of e-passes.
Traveller Advisory for Ooty & Kodaikanal
To facilitate regulated access and manage traffic congestion, District Collectors have been instructed to establish an online platform for e-pass issuance. These passes will be mandatory for entry into Ooty and Kodaikanal during the specified period. This move underscores the importance of sustainable tourism management and preserving the ecosystem of the Nilgiris while ensuring a smooth travel experience for visitors.
Travellers are advised to follow due procedure while visiting these cities. Hill station travel is at its peak as summers get scorching across the cities. With caution observed at the right juncture, mishaps can be avoided.
