Introducing FLY91: India's Newest Airline Enhancing Last-Mile Connectivity
India's aviation sector witnessed a significant development with the launch of FLY91, the country's latest airline venture. Spearheaded by seasoned aviation veteran Manoj Chacko, FLY91 aims to revolutionize air travel accessibility and connectivity, particularly focusing on bridging the gap between India's 2nd and 3rd-tier cities.
Inaugural Flight and Commencement of Operations
FLY91 commenced its operations with an inaugural flight from Goa's Mopa Airport to Agatti, an atoll of the Lakshadweep Islands, marking a milestone in Indian aviation. Following this, commercial services are set to begin on March 18, with flights connecting Goa to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. This move is aligned with the government's vision of enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth, as emphasized by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Ownership and Leadership
Under the leadership of CEO Manoj Chacko, a veteran in the travel industry with previous stints at Emirates Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines, FLY91 aims to redefine the air travel experience in India. Supported by Chairman Harsha Raghavan, the airline envisions connecting all airports across the nation, reflecting a commitment to inclusive growth and accessibility.
Fleet Expansion and Operational Plans
Currently, FLY91 operates two ATR 72-600 aircraft, with plans to expand its fleet to six within the next six months. Over the next five years, the airline aims to increase its presence by incorporating 30 aircraft and expanding last-mile connections to 50 Indian cities. The airline's expansion strategy underscores its dedication to catering to the diverse travel needs of passengers across the country.
Enhancing Last-Mile Connectivity
FLY91's strategic route planning includes connecting Goa and Sindhudurg to major cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, with future plans to expand services to Pune, Jalgaon, and Nanded. By leveraging initiatives like the Udey Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme, the airline seeks to bridge the gap between urban centres and underserved regions, thereby facilitating socio-economic development.
Regulatory Approvals and Compliance
FLY91 obtained the necessary regulatory approvals, including the Air Operation Permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), enabling it to operate flights under the UDAN and Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). The airline's commitment to safety and regulatory compliance underscores its dedication to providing passengers with a reliable and secure travel experience.
