Monsoon is one of the most awaited seasons in India, offering a chance to enjoy the refreshing rains. However, certain destinations become hazardous during this time due to landslides, waterlogging, and floods. If you are planning a monsoon trip, avoid these places for your safety.
Kinnaur
Kinnaur Valley remains beautiful throughout the year, but the best time to visit is between April and June or post-monsoon. During monsoon months, the weather in Kinnaur turns unpredictable with frequent landslides and cloudbursts. It’s advisable to avoid visiting Kinnaur from July to September.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand experiences severe weather during the monsoon. Despite being a popular destination due to its proximity to Delhi-NCR, heavy rainfall in the upper regions causes landslides, floods, and cloudbursts. Weather alerts are common, advising against trekking and visiting vulnerable areas.
Assam
Assam frequently reports landslides during the monsoon season, making travel unsafe. Although the state turns lush green, it is best to avoid visiting during this period. This year, Assam has faced devastating floods, with roads cut off due to landslides.
Bihar
The ideal time to visit Bihar is between October and March, after the monsoon season. Bihar is flood-prone due to major rivers like the Burhi, Kosi, Gandak, and Bagmati, which often cause large-scale devastation. Monsoon weather is unpredictable and can ruin travel plans.
Meghalaya
Meghalaya recorded 161% more rain from June 1-22 this year, resulting in 1314.4 mm of rainfall against the normal 503.1 mm. This excessive rain caused landslides and blocked highways, disrupting travel and mobile network connectivity. Plan your trip to Meghalaya during the winter months of November to February instead.
