As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day on August 15, Delhi and the surrounding NCR cities will witness heightened security and traffic restrictions to ensure the smooth conduct of official events. With thousands expected to gather near key venues like the Red Fort, commuters are advised to plan their journeys carefully and be aware of road closures, diversions, and movement bans across the region.

In Delhi, significant traffic restrictions will be in place between 4 AM and 10 AM in areas surrounding the Red Fort. Roads including Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, and adjoining stretches will be closed to general traffic. Vehicles from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Salimgarh Bypass, Vikas Marg, and other nearby areas will face diversions. Authorities have urged the public to use the Delhi Metro to avoid congestion, as security will be strict and prohibited items like cameras, binoculars, handbags, and water bottles will not be allowed near the venue.

In Faridabad, the movement of heavy vehicles towards Delhi and within the city will be prohibited from 10 PM on August 14 until 2 PM on August 15. This includes routes such as the Badarpur Border, Prahladpur, Surajkund Gol Chakkar, Mangar Chowki Naka, Sector 30 Cut, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and NH-19. Only vehicles carrying essential goods, emergency services, or those with special government permits will be exempt.

Gurugram will also enforce a ban on heavy vehicles entering Delhi from 5 PM on August 14 until 1:30 PM on August 15. Out-of-state and district-bound traffic will be directed to use the KMP Expressway, and drivers are reminded to park only in designated areas.

In Noida and Greater Noida, commercial vehicles including heavy, medium, and light goods carriers will be barred from entering Delhi between 10 PM on August 14 and the end of Independence Day events. Goods vehicles approaching the Chilla border will be turned back to the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway. Vehicles entering via the DND Flyway or Kalindi Kunj will be redirected, while those from the Yamuna Expressway will be stopped at Zero Point and diverted through Pari Chowk, P3, Kasna, and Sirsa towards the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

Authorities across Delhi-NCR have strongly recommended the use of public transport and early travel planning. With security checks expected to be thorough, commuters should also factor in additional time for their journeys and remain alert to official advisories.
