In a landmark step toward sustainable digital tourism, the Dalai Lama inaugurated VisitDharamshala.com, a platform developed by the Dharamshala Hotel and Restaurant Association to promote Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra Valley.

During the ceremony held at his McLeodganj residence, the spiritual leader called the initiative “a milestone effort” that will strengthen Himachal’s global tourism presence.

One Platform for Travelers

The website serves as a comprehensive travel hub offering details on attractions, monasteries, adventure activities, cuisine, and crafts. Visitors can browse over 100 verified hotels and receive direct booking confirmations, ensuring transparency and reliability.

“Our mission is to promote eco-friendly tourism and support local livelihoods,” said Ashwani Bamba, president of the association. “Only verified accommodations and service providers are listed to maintain credibility.”

Promoting Responsible Travel

The portal encourages responsible tourism practices by highlighting Dharamshala’s natural and cultural assets — from the Dhauladhar mountains to the serene Pong Dam Lake. By combining technology with tradition, it aims to make travel in the Himalayas more sustainable and accessible.

District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman added that the state government’s decision to designate Kangra as a “tourism district” further strengthens its potential as a global destination.

Blending Heritage and Innovation

VisitDharamshala.com stands as a symbol of Himachal’s effort to blend spiritual heritage with digital innovation. By connecting global travelers to local experiences, it offers a glimpse into the state’s evolving approach to tourism — modern, mindful, and meaningful.
