Immerse yourself in art and creativity at this Himachali homestay nestled in Naggar, where tradition meets innovation in architecture. NORTH, a collective founded by architect Rahul Bhushan, embodies the essence of vernacular design while preserving the natural beauty of the mountains.

NORTH's Origins

Bhushan's childhood in Shimla, surrounded by colonial buildings, sparked his passion for architecture. Witnessing the encroachment of concrete structures in the mountains, he envisioned a return to simpler, more sustainable homes. This vision led him to study Kath Kuni, an ancient architectural technique of the western Himalayas, during his education.

In 2017, NORTH was established as a hub for young designers and architects, fostering creativity and research in Naggar. The collective focuses on building earthquake-resilient structures using natural materials like stone and wood, while also restoring heritage buildings.

Homestay for the Art Lovers

NORTH's estate serves as a homestay, offering guests an opportunity to experience slow living amidst the hills. Artist residencies held twice a year attract creatives seeking inspiration from Himachali culture and craftsmanship.

The estate's highlight is the Dhajji House, a carbon-negative jungle cabin constructed using reclaimed wood and local materials. Designed in the Dhajji Dewari style, the cabin offers a luxurious yet sustainable retreat with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Community & Culture

Guests can explore nearby trails, visit historical sites like the Naggar Castle and Roerich Art Gallery, or simply relax in the serene environment. Sustainability extends to the kitchen, where locally sourced ingredients are used to create seasonal dishes. With a focus on community and mindfulness, NORTH provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature and creativity in the heart of Himachal Pradesh.
