A viral claim about the United Arab Emirates offering lifetime Golden Visas to Indian and Bangladeshi nationals caused a wave of excitement earlier this week, especially across social media and select media platforms. The rumour suggested that applicants could secure a long term residency visa in the UAE by paying around AED 100,000, which is roughly INR 23.3 lakh, without having to invest in property or set up a business. However, within twenty four hours of the buzz spreading, authorities stepped in to set the record straight.
On Wednesday, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security officially dismissed the claim, stating that the rumour had no legal basis and was issued without any coordination with the relevant government entities. The UAE authorities clarified that the rules, eligibility, and processing of the Golden Visa are strictly defined by established legal frameworks and ministerial decisions. The concept of a lifetime Golden Visa simply does not exist under the current laws.
The statement followed a public apology issued by Rayad Group, a Dubai based private company that was cited in many of the misleading reports. The group admitted responsibility for the false communication and announced that no such nomination based scheme had been launched or approved by the UAE government. Their apology also acknowledged the confusion and inconvenience caused to the public.
Officials reiterated that no third party agency, internal or external, is authorised to process or promote Golden Visa applications. The authority warned the public against falling victim to scams and misinformation that could be financially and emotionally damaging. Legal action is expected against individuals or firms found to be involved in spreading these misleading narratives.
The Golden Visa program, first introduced by the UAE in 2019, is designed to offer long term residency to select individuals who contribute significantly to the nation’s economy and development. Eligible recipients include investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students, doctors, and creatives who have demonstrated excellence in their fields. However, these visas are time bound and come with clearly stated conditions.
Over the years, the UAE has awarded Golden Visas to global celebrities, including Indian film icon Rajinikanth. These recognitions reflect the country’s strategy to retain top global talent and attract high impact professionals to contribute to key sectors such as real estate, healthcare, technology, and academia.
The Golden Visa is not unique to the UAE. Countries like Portugal, Greece, Canada, and Italy also offer similar residency by investment programs that allow qualified applicants to live and work in the host country. Some programs also lead to permanent residency or citizenship. Recently, both Indonesia and Vietnam launched their own Golden Visa offerings, allowing eligible individuals to live in the country for up to a decade, with the intention of encouraging sustained foreign investment and long term tourism.
However, the UAE’s recent clarification serves as a reminder to the public to be wary of promotional claims and to always verify information with official sources. Those interested in applying for the UAE Golden Visa should refer directly to the government’s official portal at www.icp.gov.ae or contact their helpline for accurate and updated information.
