Professor Marina Novelli, Director of the Sustainable Travel and Tourism Advanced Research Centre at Nottingham University Business School, steps into the role with deep expertise in tourism and international development. She will steer the Committee’s work to promote responsible conduct across the sector, ensure the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism remains a living guide, and advise on emerging ethical issues that shape destinations, businesses, and communities.

What the Committee does

The World Committee on Tourism Ethics interprets and evaluates the Global Code of Ethics and the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics when it enters into force. It monitors how principles such as inclusivity, environmental stewardship, fair work, and community benefit translate into daily practice across public and private actors.

New members to strengthen representation

Member States also approved a refreshed roster that adds leaders from business, associations, and government. Full members include Nancy Mejía Bonifazi, Eliana Janineh, Mokganedi Ntana, Michaela Reitterer, and Amol Bobby Titus. Alternate members include Mekhak Apresyan, Almudena González Gutiérrez de León, and Maria Nchama Nzohó. Their combined perspectives will support practical progress on ethics, accessibility, and climate aligned action.

Why this matters now

Tourism faces a decisive moment as travelers seek authenticity, safety, and purpose while destinations balance growth with protection of culture and nature. With Professor Novelli’s leadership, the Committee will help turn ethical commitments into measurable outcomes that benefit visitors and residents alike.
