Indian Railways has taken a major digital leap with the official launch of the RailOne app, introduced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1, 2025. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems, this next generation mobile app is designed to bring together a host of railway related services under one simplified platform. It is now available for download on both Android and iOS platforms, offering a more efficient, user friendly way to navigate train travel in India.
For decades, train passengers have had to rely on a mix of different apps and platforms to access services like booking tickets, tracking train status, or ordering meals during their journey. The RailOne app brings all these functions together, allowing users to perform nearly every railway related task from a single screen. Whether you need to book an unreserved ticket, order food on your train, or check live train locations, the app provides it all with a clean interface and an easy login system.
One of the standout features is its integration with earlier platforms like the Unreserved Ticketing System and RailConnect, eliminating the need to juggle between multiple apps. The app also includes a digital R Wallet for faster payments, making the booking process smoother. Additionally, passengers using older platforms can still use their existing login credentials to access RailOne, ensuring a seamless transition.
The app goes beyond ticketing by offering real time tracking of trains, booking of porters and taxis for first and last mile connectivity, and even grievance redressal services. It also includes accessibility features for persons with disabilities, as well as dedicated services for students and patients. For unreserved ticket and platform ticket bookings, the app even offers a small discount, making it not just convenient but also cost effective.
With security and user authentication in mind, the app supports single sign on using mPIN or biometric methods. This streamlines access while ensuring user data remains protected. Moreover, in line with broader efforts to prevent misuse of ticketing platforms, Aadhaar verification is now mandatory for booking Tatkal and emergency tickets through IRCTC. This move is expected to reduce the bulk booking of seats by agents and increase availability for genuine travellers.
Alongside the app launch, Indian Railways has also revised its reservation charting policy. The first reservation chart for trains will now be prepared eight hours prior to the scheduled departure time instead of the previous four hour window. This change offers more clarity for passengers who want to confirm their seat status or make last minute adjustments to travel plans.
With the launch of RailOne, Indian Railways is not just updating its digital infrastructure but also setting a new standard for how public transport services can be streamlined through technology. The app’s all in one approach means fewer hassles, better planning, and a more informed travel experience for millions of passengers across the country.
