Slovenia is stepping into the global remote work spotlight with the announcement of a digital nomad visa set to launch in November 2025. The visa will allow individuals from outside the European Union and European Economic Area, including Indian citizens, to legally reside in Slovenia for up to twelve months while continuing to work remotely for employers or clients based outside the country.

With its vibrant culture, safe environment, well developed infrastructure, and postcard perfect landscapes, Slovenia is aiming to become a preferred destination for global digital nomads. This visa initiative is part of a wider trend seen across Europe, where countries are seeking to attract remote professionals who contribute to the local economy without competing in the domestic job market.

To be eligible for Slovenia’s digital nomad visa, applicants must demonstrate that they are employed by a foreign company or are self employed and provide services to international clients. Any direct involvement with Slovenian businesses is strictly prohibited under this visa scheme. Applicants must also show sufficient income to sustain themselves and any dependents while living in Slovenia. This can be validated through recent payslips, employment contracts, freelance service agreements, or consistent bank statements.

The visa also permits family members to join the primary applicant, although they too must refrain from engaging in any employment within Slovenia. While the government has yet to announce the specific income threshold, it is expected to align with the average cost of living in the country, ensuring that visa holders can support themselves comfortably.

A clean criminal record and proof of valid international health insurance will also be necessary for visa approval. Applicants must carry a valid passport from a non EU or non EEA country and present documentation covering the full length of their intended stay.

The application process will be accessible online as well as through Slovenian embassies and consulates worldwide. According to official sources, the digital nomad visa will officially be available from November 21, 2025. While the visa allows a stay of up to one year, it is non renewable. Those wishing to reapply must exit Slovenia for at least six months before submitting a new application.

This move reflects Slovenia’s growing emphasis on sustainable tourism and remote work lifestyles. As a member of the Schengen Area, Slovenia offers remote professionals the added advantage of easy travel across many other European countries. The country’s central location in Europe, combined with its excellent internet connectivity, clean environment, and cultural richness, makes it an ideal base for remote workers seeking both productivity and personal fulfillment.

For those looking to break free from routine and live amid the charm of medieval towns, alpine lakes, and modern cityscapes, Slovenia’s new digital nomad visa offers a unique chance to combine work and wanderlust.
