The Uttarakhand forest department has introduced an entry fee of INR 50 per person for two popular ecotourism sites in Nainital: Tiffin Top and China Peak. This move aims to fund efforts to keep these areas clean and manage waste effectively.
Purpose of the Entry Fee
Chandrashekhar Joshi, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Nainital, explained that the entry fee is necessary for better waste management, especially plastic waste. The goal is to encourage visitors to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of these natural spots.
Mixed Reactions to the Fee
Not everyone agrees with the new fee. Indu Pandey, a former chief secretary of Uttarakhand and a Nainital resident, expressed concerns that the fee might discourage nature lovers from visiting. On social media, Pandey argued that the fee could negatively impact tourism and promised to discuss the issue with state officials.
Underutilization of China Peak
Pandey also pointed out that China Peak is already underutilized because of the challenging trek required to reach it. Despite its beauty, the tough climb has kept visitor numbers low, making the fee seem unnecessary.
Nainital's Eco-Tourism Attractions
Nainital is home to many beautiful eco-tourism sites that attract visitors from all over. The lush forests, clear lakes, and stunning mountains offer a perfect setting for outdoor activities and nature appreciation.
Beyond Nainital
In addition to Nainital, Uttarakhand boasts other attractive destinations. Hill stations like Mussoorie and Ranikhet provide serene retreats, while spiritual spots like Rishikesh and Haridwar offer unique cultural experiences. Whether trekking through the Himalayas or exploring charming villages, Uttarakhand promises memorable adventures and breathtaking views.
