The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has achieved the top spot in the Travel and Tourism Development Index for the Middle East and North Africa region and is ranked 18th globally. This index, published by the World Economic Forum, highlights the UAE's significant progress with a 4.4% increase in its score compared to the 2021 edition, moving it seven places higher in the global ranking.

 

Evaluating 119 Economies

The index evaluates 119 economies based on five sub-indices: enabling environment, travel and tourism policy, infrastructure and services, natural and cultural resources, and sustainability. This tool helps businesses, governments, and international organizations shape the development of the travel and tourism industry.

Global Leaders in the Index

The United States leads the index, followed by Spain and Japan. Among high-income economies, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are notable for their significant improvements between 2019 and 2024, with both countries ranking in the top ten.

 

Recovery in the Middle East

The Middle East region has shown strong recovery rates, with international tourist arrivals exceeding pre-pandemic levels by 20%. Europe, Africa, and the Americas have also demonstrated robust recovery, collectively regaining 90% of their pre-COVID-19 activity by 2023.

The report predicts a global tourism rebound, surpassing pre-crisis levels due to increased demand, more flight options, better international accessibility, and more investments in natural and cultural attractions.
