Bhopal is all set to welcome its first-ever city museum on June 6. This significant milestone is backed by the Indian Government and led by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. The museum will be located in the left wing of the historic Moti Mahal. This project aims to be a tourist centre and a place for citizens to engage with the city’s heritage and culture.
Historical Importance of Moti Mahal
Sheo Shekhar Shukla, the Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, emphasized the historical importance of Moti Mahal. The museum will have 11 galleries that explore the rich history of Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh, focusing on how Bhopal was formed and its evolution over time.
What to Expect at the Museum
Visitors can look forward to a variety of exhibits, including:
Prehistoric rock paintings
Archaeological findings
Ancient tools
Royal attire from Bhopal and nearby areas
Temple remnants
Sculptures and artwork from the Bhopal Nawab era
Using modern technology, the museum aims to provide an immersive and educational experience suitable for all ages.
Honoring Raja Bhoj
The right wing of Moti Mahal will house a dedicated museum honoring the great Parmar King Raja Bhoj. This museum will showcase his life and achievements, adding another layer to the rich cultural experience.
The Tribal Museum
In addition to the City Museum, the Tribal Museum in Bhopal will feature seven traditional houses representing the state's major tribes: Gond, Baiga, Bhil, Bharia, Korku, Kol, and Sahariya. These houses will provide insight into tribal life, with tribal families staying in them for three to six months to offer visitors an authentic glimpse into their lifestyle.
Engaging with Tribal Communities
Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with tribal communities. The houses will feature:
- Walls made from mud-plastered bamboo sacks
- Idols of Bada Dev
- Storage sheds
- Traditional milling equipment
- Beds, daily utensils, and kitchens
This initiative aims to dispel misconceptions and foster a better understanding of tribal societies.
Future Plans for Theme-Based Museums
Starting June 6, 2024, visitors can experience the diverse cultural aspects of these tribal communities. Looking ahead, Madhya Pradesh plans to establish various theme-based museums at key heritage and cultural sites, further enriching the tourism landscape.
